Set up in accordance with the specific Regional Law No.14 of 14 April 1998, Fondation Grand Paradis is an organisation which aims at promoting and developing naturalistic and cultural tourism on the territory made up of the local councils of Valle d’Aosta within the Gran Paradiso National Park jurisdiction.

Fondation Gran Paradis specifically deals with:

  • Promoting, developing, co-ordinating and running the network of locations of naturalistic interest such as the Visitors’ Centre of the Gran Paradiso National Park, the Paradisia Alpine Botanical Garden and the centres for environmental studies;
  • Promoting, developing, co-ordinating and running the network of locations of cultural interest, which includes the Castle of Introd and two Heritage Trust Homes, the “Maison Gèrard-Dayné” in Cogne and the “Maison Bruil” of Introd, examples of rural architecture and cultural patrimony, both of which house ethnographic exhibitions;
  • Promoting, co-ordinating and running local museums, temporary exhibitions and congress centres such as the “Maison Pellissier” of Rhêmes-Saint-Georges;
  • Publicising the naturalistic and cultural qualities of the territory by giving information, offering a variety of services and distributing tourist material.

The Grand Paradis Foundation was set up to give official recognition to the financial contribution of the Independent Region of Valle d’Aosta, which funded a number of structures within Gran Paradiso equipped to receive tourists and to enhance its environmental, historical and cultural value.  The Foundation works closely with the local community and with Gran Paradiso National Park and its priorities are:
  • To offer locations of naturalistic and cultural interest on the territory;
  • To find the financial resources necessary for the development of the facilities;
  • To support and improve co-operation between the Park and the local communities following realistic guidelines.

Fondation Grand Paradis also acts as a regional “laboratory” to try out and test new ways of running and managing collective services.
