Fondation Grand Paradis presents "Géoguide Grand Paradis"

Fondation Grand Paradis presents Géoguide Grand Paradis – Esprit des lieux et nouvelles technologies: le Grand Paradis dans votre portable.

On Monday the 26th of July 2010 at 4.30pm, the project will be presented at a press release at Maison Bruil of Introd. Following the presentation there will be a practical demonstration on how to use the new applications of Géoguide Grand Paradis.

Géoguide is a pilot project that allows to discover the Grand Paradiso territory and cultural heritage through customisable geo-referenced itineraries and innovative technologies, such as augmented reality. The visitor can either follow the 5 proposed routes, or customise them according to his or her interests. It is indeed possible to choose between a vast range of attractions that characterise the territory from a cultural, enogastronomical and naturalistic point of view. The municipalities involved are Aymavilles, Villeneuve, Introd and Rhêmes-Saint-Georges but, thanks to augmented-reality software, the interest-points extend from Aosta hollow to the Mont Blanc’s 4810m.

Augmented reality is the combination of different information layers with reality. The elements that “augment” reality can be viewed through a mobile device that fits in reality in real-time with the different layers of content. The augmented reality interest-points created with the Grand Paradiso Augmented Reality software are specific for iPhones, while the geo-referenced interest-points can be downloaded onto any GPS or onto the latest generation Smartphone.

From Monday the 26th of July 2010, three iPhones and six GPS will be available for the visitors of Maison Bruil of Introd (open until the 12th of September, every day from 11am to 7pm), without any additional expenses. For those who own an iPhone or a GPS, the Géoguide itineraries can be downloaded for free from Fondation Grand Paradis’ website (www.grand-paradis.it).

Géoguide Grand Paradis has been carried out as part of Les Racines du Gout, a French-Italian cross-border cooperation project that has the objective of enhancing the value of local products. Out of the 58 selected interest-points, many have been proposed for the visitor to discover the region’s food and wine; giving information about local producers, restaurants in which to taste the traditional products, and where to buy them.

The director of Fondation Grand Paradis, Luisa Vuillermoz, states: “We wanted to experience with this project the technological novelties that are changing our lives at a global scale. We have created an augmented reality application for iPhones that allows to relate place-names and multimedia content by framing an image with the device. We are hoping that, thanks to the Géoguide Grand Paradis’ application, people visiting Aymavilles, for example, will be able to appreciate even more the magnificence of Mount Grivola; by pointing the iPhone towards the mountain, one will discover that it is nearly 4,000m high; or by pointing it in the direction of Pont d’Aël, the history and extraordinary features of this impressive roman monument will appear on the screen. Fondation Grand Paradis promotes a model of quality-oriented tourism, in which the territory, nature, traditions and innovation blend into each other. Our aim is to increase awareness in visitors and to propose the Gran Paradiso area as a tourist destination, both for visitors who are interested in nature and for those interested in gaining in-depth knowledge in other themes”.
