FAS "Giroparchi "
The “Giroparchi” (going round the parks) project has been set up in order to create a unified tourist product, through a series of material and non-material actions intended to create a path of discovery of the park areas of Mont Avic and the Gran Paradiso. The project is divided into a series of activities that affect the Valle d’Aosta and Piedmont sides of the area being considered.
In the context of developing regional strategies devoted to making the most of the regional territory’s environment, the intention is to accompany the visitor along a path of discovery, not only of the scenery, but also of the very identity of a territory that has strong features from a historical, cultural and natural point of view. The initiative, therefore, does not stop at merely connecting together a number of localities, but sets out to highlight the aspects that distinguish them the most. In the context of the majestic scenery of the place, the emphasis will be placed on the relationship that has been established between man and the natural environment: not only scenery and nature, but also traditions, savoir-faire, gastronomy and culture. From this point of view, the rationalization and completion of the network of paths connecting the various different valleys is of primary importance. To connection of the various different sites there must be added connection and integration of services that are suitable for discovering the area (availability of accommodation, stop-offs, transport, and accompanying people in their discovery of the area).
Bringing together the various different localities, from a material and a non-material point of view, is the first and essential condition for being able to have a unified and coherent presentation of the area.
The “Giroparchi” therefore requires a route across the Gran Paradiso and Mont Avic protected areas to be defined, in particular through:
- re-evaluation of existing paths and creating from scratch some connecting sections, with attention to low altitude links, near the main centres at the bottom of the valleys, to give the opportunity for a larger class of users to take advantage of them, at the same time guaranteeing the containment of human pressure;
- accessibility and sustainable mobility in the area under consideration, with priority being given to pedestrian use, together with rationalization of low impact access systems, such as collective transport services, and demand responsive transport, to relieve motor traffic congestion in the valleys;
- the creation of a connection system to centres of population and/or sites of cultural or natural interest (intra-valley communication), that is able to guarantee a plurality of access points to the route, at the same time increasing possible synergies with operators in the area;
- requalification of present buildings along the route, considered necessary for better interconnection between the protected areas (inter-valley communication), and for implementation of a reception capability throughout the area;
- action taken at sites of particular natural and cultural interest, to guarantee that they can be properly used by the public, at the same time ensuring a low environmental impact;
- the creation of information and promotion systems for the public, and reinforcement of the tourism offer of the different protected areas, through a synergistic system for commercializing the product, and suitable signs giving information, that will have to comply with the technical provisions laid down in regional norms on the matter, and continuing with the projects that were started some years ago by the two Park Bodies and the Municipalities concerned, in order to have a unified image throughout the territory.
Integrated management of action taken, envisaging a widespread process of concerted action with public and private operators in the territory, and envisaging supra-regional action coordination meetings, to ensure the unified and coherent nature of all operations.
