The GPNP visitors centre - Cogne

The Gran Paradiso National Park Visitors’ Centre in Cogne was opened in 2007.  “TutelAttiva” Park Laboratory  is the name given to the research centre where visitors can study and understand the development of the park, deepen their knowledge of the natural environment and  analyse the choices taken regarding  the use and administration of  the territory.

The administration of a protected area involves getting the right balance between giving information and using resources correctly, in a territory which is constantly changing.
The complicated and dynamic development of the Park is set out in laboratory style, with explanatory models, multi-media systems and interactive games, various role plays, and an unusual “sensorial space”, which gives visitors the chance to appreciate the perfumes of nature and listen to the sounds of the woods.  The themes of the Visitors’ Centre of Cogne are: Water, using models which show the effects of water on the territory, depict floods and explain the relationship between human settlement and hydrological factors; The Forest and Grazing Land, including a multi-media “full immersion” into the life of the forester and realistic decision-taking to protect the forest; Wildlife and Man, where interaction between humans and animals is discussed.
The Centre attracts nature lovers, but its exhibition, themes and interactive games makes it an ideal destination for school visits.
During opening hours a professional Park Guide is available at the Centre to provide detailed and precise information.
