Paradisia Alpine Garden

The Paradisia Alpine Garden, created in July 1955, is situated 1,700 metres above sea-level at Valnontey, Cogne; its name derives from “Paradisia Liliastrum”, the mountain lily with delicate white flowers.
The garden contains about 1,000 different species of plants and flowers from the Alps and Apennines, as well as some examples of flora from other mountain ranges of the world (Europe, Asia, America).
The visitor has the opportunity to come into close contact with nature by observing and analysing the plants which can be found during an excursion in the Gran Paradiso mountains. We can discover their names, compare them with other similar species, recognise them and, most important of all, learn to respect the alpine flora and protect it.
Various itineraries and theme routes allow the visitor to explore the Paradisio Botanic Garden, paying particular attention to detail and discovering the characteristics and distinguishing features of the different species of plants. Moreover, certain of the surrounding mountain environments have been reconstructed within the park, for example the vegetation of the moist areas, the moraines, the calcareous debris.
An assortment of printed material (maps, picture cards) helps the visitor to find out more about the environment and the flora of the Paradisia Garden.
